Love/Hate Relationship With the Weekend…

Does anyone else have a love-hate relationship with the weekends like I do?

I love the freedom to sleep as long as I like.  I hate not having the regular mornng routine.

I love being able to watch my morning news shows.  I hate the food commercials that make me want to go to the kitchen and pig out.

I love swimming in my pool and pretending I am on an exotic vacation.  I hate knowing there are a multitude of chores in the house that need attended to.

I love attending weekend festivals and fairs.  I hate smelling the fabulous food and knowing I cannot indulge.

Just a blog to vent, I guess.  But I wouldn’t give up my weekends for anything.

My weekend plans look like this.  Saturday - Work on daughter’s room; Family going to confession; Shopping for husbnd’s upcoming business trip.  Sunday - Italian Heritage Festival in Wheeling, WV; Ohio Valley Athletic Conference West Virginia/Ohio All-Star High School Football Game and Band Spectacular.  I will find time to swim.  It’s my preferred way to get my exercise in the summer.

Looks like I had better get crackin’ if I am going to get all of this done in 48 hours  :-).  Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Had an Accident on the Way to a Meeting this Morning!

OK.  Here goes my day, everyone.  I got up at 5:00 am, because I had to be at a meeting that is 1 hour and 40 mins from home.  I live in a VERY rural area, so 45 miles of the 90- mile trek is twists and turns that make my MIL from upstate NY hold on to the doors in fear for her life when we drive her anywhere around here.  The other 45 is Interstate.

Anyway, it was raining like nothing else and I hit a turn with mud in it.  Water and mud act like ice when you hit a turn on good ol’ WV Route 20.  I skidded sideways into a yellow mustang that was parked beside a house in the turn.  I tell you had that car not been there, I would have ended up in the house.  I tried to wake up the owner, but no one would come to the door.  I kept yelling into an open window…”Excuse me.  I hit your car…”  No one budged.  I kept envisioning someone lurking around the woods watching me and getting a huge kick out of the whole scene. I left a note on the car (hoped the rain didn’t ruin it) and called the police to report it. I drove on to the meeting.  Made it with time to spare.  Of course, the first thing I wanted to do was get something to eat - and I had just had breakfast.  Thank goodness I recognized the trigger and refrained from eating, but the addict in me wanted food for comfort, I tell ya.

Well, a woman finally called my cell and was so nice.  I had hit her ex-husband’s car and she was laughing her butt off.  He was there with her at her house because he doesn’t have a phone and is hard of hearing (explains him not coming to the door).  The insurance adjuster is going to take care of both cars and no one was hurt.  I swear I did not even feel the impact of the crash.  I had coffee and an open can of pop in the car and nothing even spilled.  It was like I hit a pillow, but I figure a pillow would cost much less to replace than the damages - once the bill comes in for the repairs to both of our passenger side lights and fenders.

Oh boy!  What a day!  But I have stayed OP and my husband and kids now have something to rag on me about for a while.  They seem to get a kick out of momma making a mistake.  And NO ONE WAS HURT!  PRAISE GOD!

Just for Today - Thanks Konadad, Don

When I read Don’s blog yesterday, I knew I had hit upon my new mantra for the time being.  “Just for today”, I will swim for 1/2 hour,  “Just for today”, I will drink my water.  “Just for today”, I will eat within my points range.  “Just for today”, I will write fown my food intake.

I can do most anything for a day.  Thanks, Don for the motivation to get through my Sunday.  Tomorrow, I will reevaluate and proceed from there.  After all, this is “Just for today.”

Weigh-in is Tonight! Daughter is Home!

Hey all!  I have my WW meeting this evening!  I have to weigh in and am needing some really good vibes sent out to little ol’ West Virginia.

It is 90 degrees here and I am lovin’ it.  I am so sick of the rain we have had that I don’t care how hot it gets.  Anything beats rain at this point.

Hubby and son are camping in the eastern panhandle of our state (3 hours away) and daughter and I are going it alone.  She is 14 so she stays at home by herself when I work, but when I get home we will swim and enjoy the weather before going to weigh in.  She loved her basketball camp btw.  I think she will have a really good weigh-in with all of the physical activity she had there.  She was drained, but pumped.  Love seeing her like that.  :-).

Well, Buddies, have a super rest of your day.  I hope to get back on here a little later.

Valuing Myself Is Harder Than it Should Be, But Worth It

OK.  I started out my day by eating a good 4- point breakfast and getting to work on time.  Had a meeting with the superintendent and a working lunch with guidance counselors and the president of the local community college, did the family grocery shopping for the week, went to the bank, came home and made a fabulous dinner for my family that is cooking on the grill as  I type.  After this I am going to paint my daughter’s room before she gets home from basketball camp (she’s been there since Sun. and gets back tomorrow evening).

Did I mention that I managed to fit in time to pay $500.00 dollars toward my credit card debt?  Oh yes!  Add to that an evening swim  with my husband and son I have planned and I think I will have had a most splendid day.  Don’t ya think?

 Have a terrific evening, Buddies!

Getting Rid of Weight and Debt

Hey guys!  Just had to share that I am not only working on losing weight but also working on losing my credit card debt.  It is almost as difficult as losing the weight and causing me undue stress in my otherwise very blessed life.  I needed to come clean with someone and could think of no people better to share this with than my buds.  Pray for me as I tackle both struggles.  I am trying not to beat up on myself.

Thank you for letting me share this burden.  it was weighing heavy on my heart.  I actually feel better now…

I Get By With A little Help From My Friends!

I just had the most exhilarating meeting with a coworker over really great coffee at our local coffee house.  Even though it was a professional meeting, it was more like a conversation with a kindred spirit.  There was a natural flow to the dialogue that transcended formality and led to real exchange that will utlimately lead to what is good for kids - and since Iam an educator, that is the goal.

It is times like these that I am reminded at how very interdependent we are and how blessed we are as humans to actually need interaction with other humans.  When I log on here, I feel the same way.  We are kindred spirits.  The interactions I have here with my buddies transcends routine and gets down to the nitty gritty - our health (spiritual, mental, and physical).

Have a blessed day, Buddies.  I have to get back to work.

Busy Day Ahead!

It’s going to be a busy one, guys.  I have to help my daughter get packed for basketball camp and have to prepare for a family reunion tomorrow.  Thank goodness the reunion is not at my house, but I am going to bring a covered dish.

I am definitely going to get my Zumba in today.  DDR is starting to hurt my kness.  Zumba is less  tough on them, so I will go that route today.  I will also swim - love to swim!

Enjoy the day, Buddies.  I hope you all meet the goals you have set for yourselves this weekend!

I Need a Swift Kick in the Behind!

I really need to get my walk in today.  I have had my coffee and have had my breakfast, and now I need to get out and move.  I took a vacation day from work, so you think I would be pumped to get on the road.  Oh well.  I know it is what I have to do, so I am going to get my act together now and get out there.  Have a super day, buddies!

A Much-Needed “Vacation”

I don’t know what the rest of you did today, but I went to Mexico.  Yes, it was lovely, hot, and relaxing.  I was in Cancun to be precise…OK…so I actually went to my back yard with my kids and pretended to be back in Cancun (a favorite vacation destination of ours).  We swam all day, drank diet sodas and ate only fresh fruit and low-cal snacks and got a little sun.  I read a novel by a young man from our county here in WV (Small Town Odds by Jason Headley) and kept my mind off of food and work.  It was heavenly.

Now that I am back in the States, I am so grateful for my relaxing day on the Mayan Riviera.  Sometimes a little creativity is crucial for a healthy outlook and body.

Until tomorrow…Adios, Amigos!
